Ancient Gortys is an archaeological site by the Lousios River with remains of a sanctuary of Asklepios.
Ancient Gortys lies in the green valley of the Gortynios river, a tributary of the Alfeios, and it is one of the more peaceful archaeological sites in Arcadia. The remains include the walls of the ancient city, a sanctuary of Asklepios, the god of healing, and a Roman bath complex where parts of the building still stand. The setting among trees and running water makes it feel very different from the open plains of Mantineia or Tegea. A short path leads through the main remains, with information signs explaining what you see. Wear sturdy shoes, since the ground is uneven, and bring insect repellent in summer. The site is near the Lousios gorge, so it can be combined with a walk along the trail or with a visit to the monasteries of Prodromou and Philosophou. Allow about an hour. Check the opening hours before you go, since access can vary with the season.
