Astros is a seaside town in North Kynouria with a harbour, beaches and cafes.
Astros is a small town on the coast of North Kynouria, and its seafront district, Paralio Astros, is built around a harbour with fishing boats and a small marina. The waterfront has cafés and tavernas serving fresh fish, a long beach and a view across the Argolic Gulf. Behind the town, a rocky hill carries the ruins of a castle, and further inland the road leads to mountain villages and the monastery of Loukous. The town also has historical importance: the Second National Assembly of the Greek revolution was held here in 1823. Astros works well as a relaxed stop on a drive between Nafplio and Leonidio, or as a base for a few days by the sea. An evening walk along the harbour after a swim is the best way to see it. Parking can be difficult in the centre in summer, so leave the car at the edge and walk.
