Boats connect Porto Heli with the island of Spetses, a short crossing.
Spetses lies a short crossing from Porto Heli, and the boat ride takes around twenty minutes. The island is known for its pine forests, its neoclassical mansions and the absence of cars in the old harbour area, where visitors move on foot, by bicycle or in horse-drawn carriages. It also has a strong place in Greek history, as Spetses was one of the naval powers that took part in the War of Independence, and the heroine Laskarina Bouboulina came from here. Once you arrive, walk around the Dapia waterfront and the old harbour, visit the Bouboulina Museum if it is open, and swim at one of the nearby beaches. Water taxis and small boats run to coves around the island. Check ferry and hydrofoil timetables in advance, particularly outside summer, when departures are fewer. A day trip is enough to see the main sights, though many visitors prefer to stay overnight.
Around 20 minutes by water taxi.
