The Gialova lagoon is a wetland and bird habitat next to Voidokilia.
The Gialova lagoon is a protected wetland beside Voidokilia and a major stopover for migratory birds, including flamingos and herons. It is one of the most important wetlands in the Peloponnese and part of the Natura network. Paths and an observation point allow visitors to watch the birds without disturbing them, and birdwatchers come mostly in spring and autumn, when migration is at its peak. The best time of day is early morning or late afternoon, when the birds are most active. Bring binoculars, sun protection, insect repellent and water, since there is little shade. The lagoon is also home to the African chameleon, a rare species in Europe, which lives in the trees and bushes around it. Please keep to the paths, avoid noise and do not feed or disturb wildlife. The lagoon is a short walk from the village of Gialova and combines well with a visit to Voidokilia Beach.
