Kardamyli is a seaside village at the foot of Taygetos with stone tower houses.
Kardamyli is a seaside village at the foot of Mount Taygetos, with stone tower houses, a small pebble beach and tavernas by the water. It is one of the most attractive villages of the Mani, and in Homer’s Iliad it is mentioned as one of the cities offered by Agamemnon to Achilles. The old quarter, Old Kardamyli, rises on the slope behind the village, with the Mourtzinos tower house, which holds a small museum, and old churches such as Agios Spyridon. The village was home to the writer Patrick Leigh Fermor, whose house lies nearby. Walk the lanes in the morning, swim at the beach and have lunch beside the water. Kardamyli is also the starting point for the Viros gorge trail. The village is quiet and relaxed, and attracts walkers and travellers who enjoy the landscape. It is busiest in summer, but pleasant in spring and autumn.
