Simos is the best-known beach of Elafonisos, with fine white sand and two bays divided by dunes.
Simos is the best-known beach of Elafonisos, with two sandy bays separated by dunes and shallow, turquoise water. In July and August it is very crowded, and it is often compared with beaches in the Caribbean for the colour of the water and the whiteness of the sand. Behind the beach, dunes covered with cedar trees and sea lilies are protected, and visitors are asked to stay on the paths. Umbrellas and sun beds are available, and there is a camping area in the pines nearby. The water is shallow for a long distance, which suits children, but it can become windy in the afternoon. Visit early in the morning or in June or September for a quieter experience. A ferry from Pounta runs to the island, and cars can be taken on board, though queues are common in high summer. Bring sun protection, since there is little natural shade on the sand.
Parts are organised with sun beds.
Yes, it is free to visit.
