Trikala is a mountain village near Mount Ziria with fir forests.
Trikala, also known as Mesaia Trikala, is a mountain village on the slopes of Ziria surrounded by fir forest, popular as a cooler retreat from the summer heat of the lowlands. Stone and wood houses, small guesthouses and tavernas make up the village, and the air is cool and fresh even in August. In winter it can be snowy, and the village becomes a base for those heading to the ski area on the mountain. A relaxed walk through the lanes takes less than an hour, but most visitors come to sit in a café or taverna, enjoy the mountain air and use the village as a starting point for hikes. Several trails begin near the village, leading into the forest and towards the higher slopes of Ziria. Roads are winding, so drive carefully, particularly in winter. Bring warm clothing for the evenings and check weather conditions before going.
