A nature trip around Lake Stymphalia and the mountains of northern Peloponnese, with short walks.
This tour explores the mountains of northern Corinthia over one or two days. Begin at Lake Stymphalia, a high-plateau wetland associated with the myth of Heracles and the man-eating Stymphalian birds, where you can walk along the shore, look for birds and visit the small museum and archaeological remains nearby. Continue towards Feneos and the villages on the slopes of Mount Kyllini, also called Ziria, the second highest mountain in the Peloponnese. With two days, add a walk on one of the marked trails through the fir forest, and stay overnight in Trikala Korinthias or a nearby village. The mountain weather can change quickly, so carry layers, water and a map, and check the forecast. Roads are winding, and some sections are unpaved. The tour is best from spring to autumn, when the trails are clear of snow. Bring binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching, since the lake attracts many species.
Prices, opening hours and access can change, so check the official sources before you go.
