The Viros Gorge has a trail from Kardamyli through a wooded ravine to a small chapel.
The Viros Gorge trail starts from Kardamyli and follows a wooded ravine up the slopes of Taygetos, passing a stream, plane trees and a small chapel. The walk is popular with hikers and takes between two and four hours return, depending on how far you choose to go. The path begins near the village and climbs gradually through olive groves and then into the gorge, where the vegetation is dense and shady. The trail is rocky and uneven, with some stream crossings that can be difficult after heavy rain. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and food, and avoid the hottest hours of the day in summer. In spring, the stream is full and the wildflowers bloom. The trail is part of a network of paths in the Mani, and parts of it are marked. Check the weather forecast before setting out, and do not enter the gorge in stormy weather. Allow time for a swim in Kardamyli afterwards.
