The Roman-era theatre of Gytheio is a small ancient theatre next to the town.

The ancient theatre of Gytheio is a small Roman-era theatre next to the modern town, with a semicircular auditorium cut into the hillside and a view across the roofs towards the gulf. It is one of the best-preserved remains of ancient Gytheio, which served as the port of Sparta and later flourished under Roman rule. The seating, built of local stone, is still largely visible, and the stage area can be recognised. The theatre is occasionally used for summer events, and the setting gives a good idea of how the town looked in antiquity. The site is small, and a visit takes about twenty to thirty minutes. It is easy to reach on foot from the harbour, and the walk up the slope is short. Wear sturdy shoes, since the stones are uneven, and bring sun protection. It combines well with a stroll along the waterfront and a visit to Marathonisi.
