Kosmas is a cool mountain village on Mount Parnon with a stone-paved plane-tree square.
Kosmas is a mountain village on the slopes of Parnon, about 800 metres above sea level, centred on a stone-paved square shaded by plane trees and fed by running water. Stone houses and a few traditional cafés surround it, and the cool air makes it a popular place to escape the summer heat of the coast. The village belongs to the Tsakonian area, and the dialect and local traditions are part of its identity. It is quiet during the week and livelier on weekends and in August. A walk along the lanes takes less than an hour, but most visitors come to sit under the trees, eat in a taverna and enjoy the atmosphere. Footpaths lead out into the surrounding fir forest for those who want more activity. The road from Leonidio is winding, so allow time and take care. Bring a light jacket, since evenings are cool even in summer.
